This is the classic 1931-1932 Philco model 70 introduced in June 1931. Two new models; the 70 and 90, replaced the discontinued model 21 cathedral. The model 90 Baby Grand was a larger cathedral than the 70 and cost $20.00 more. Philco sold 288,620 model 70's priced at 49.95. They sold 106,050 model 90 Baby Grands at $69.95. This was a lot of money during the depression, but was much cheaper than many other receivers available at the time. These sets represented a trend to produce smaller and cheaper sets that the public could afford to buy. Philco was able to make money during the depression due to these types of 'midget' sets.
